Cancer

Getting cancer can be one of the most serious medical issues an individual or family can go through. Information about warning signs is available on the main NHS website here. If you are in any doubt, please contact us so we can get you checked over. Catching cancer early is critical for improving recovery rates.

We’ve also collected some resources below which we hope will help:

Cervical Smear Screening

We recommend all eligible patients keep up-to-date with their smears, and our specially trained nursing team are here to make it as easy as possible. You will be contacted by the central NHS team when it is time for your smear, but if you’re unsure, we can check when you are due.

iCan – Patient Resource

This new website provides information for cancer patients regarding lifestyle, early diagnosis, screening and psychological support.

Healthy Stockport Options

You can see the support available through Healthy Stockport here.

Prostate Cancer

Instead of a national screening programme, there is an informed choice programme, called prostate cancer risk management, for healthy men aged 50 or over who ask their GP about PSA testing. It aims to give men good information on the pros and cons of a PSA test.

If you’re aged 50 or over and decide to have your PSA levels tested after talking to a GP, they can arrange for it to be carried out free on the NHS.

If results show you have a raised level of PSA, the GP may suggest further tests.

For information about PSA screening for prostate cancer, please visit the NHS website here
